Books and Writing

I am an Author

My newest book is “Dancing By Myself: Learning To Live Again In A World Without Penney.”
The book is not so much the story of Penney’s death as it is the story of how I learned to live again after she died. It’s about how I learned to give myself permission to breathe again, to laugh and smile again. It’s about how I learned it’s OK to say “No” when I needed to for my own mental health. I still do it now and again.

My first book, “My Breast Cancer Sally” was published in 2009. It’s the story of my very personal journey with the disease, from those scary words: “You have breast cancer,” through countless medical appointments, two surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation to being a survivor. Why is it called a “sally?” A “sally” is a sudden charge out of a besieged place against the enemy. I was not going to let cancer win the battle.

I am The Story Teller

I have expanded my work as a Justice of the Peace to include memorial and eulogy writing. Many people want to share their feelings in times of immense sadness but feel reluctant to do so for different reasons. It may be a perceived inability to put words on paper or not knowing what to say or how to say it. It may be a concern about the ability to stand in front of a gathering and express what they feel in their hearts.
Others wish to craft their own stories that will be shared at the time of their passing. Many already have the words to share with their family and friends when they depart this world. One fact is clear. There is no right or wrong way to share feelings and love in times of sorrow.
Let me be your Story Teller. I will sit with you and ask some questions that will help me get to know you or your loved one. I will then craft the unique story of an extraordinary life. I will give you the story to read or have someone else read it for you. If you wish, I will read it for you. The decision is yours to make.
I know how difficult it is to cope with loss. Most of us are in a state of shock and don’t know exactly where to begin to make the necessary arrangements. Let’s work together to share the story of a life well-lived.
